Cooking is my passion! From the time I was a very young girl I have been helping my mother in the kitchen and learning about good, wholesome southern cooking. I was born in Washington, DC, we moved to Southern MD when I was 3 and by the time I was 11 I was the oldest of 7 children. At many of the family gatherings I have done most of the cooking from appetizers, buffet dinners, sit-down dinners, and holiday parties. As I grew up and had my own family I began experimenting with more sophisticated and gourmet fare. My cooking expertise is autodidactic (self-taught). Friends began asking me to prepare dishes for their dinners or parties. No one has ever left my table not enjoying the occasion and/or requesting the recipe. One of my greatest joys is reading cookbooks and cooking magazines for new recipes and then experimenting to improve the flavors in the recipe. I would love to come to your home as your personal chef or to prepare a meal for an elegant dinner party, holiday party or any event. |

I am frequently asked about the name of my company, FourJanes. There are/were four generations of the oldest girl with the middle name of Jane. My mother was the first. She was very instrumental in my decision to begin my business and continues to be a source of inspiration. When she passed away in January 2001 from cancer I wanted to do something very special in her honor. So, I feel I have created a living memorial to my mother. The picture on this page is of the Four Janes. It was taken when my granddaughter was only ~11 months old; she is now 10. When I have an event to cater my oldest daughter goes with me to help serve or as a bartender. My other daughter loves to cook and, presently, helps with the cooking. My granddaughter loves to help me in the kitchen with the prep work. She often speaks of taking over the business when she is old enough. We are truly a family-run business. |
